The “Candelabrum of the Holy Bank” is also known as the Candelabrum of the Holy Altar (Greek: Κανδήλα ή Κανδηλοστάτης της Αγίας Τραπέζης). This is a ceremonial candelabrum (or pair of candelabra) placed directly on the Holy Altar Table—also known as the Holy Bank (Greek: Ἁγία Τράπεζα), the most sacred area in an Orthodox church. These candelabra are used to illuminate the Holy Altar, especially during the Divine Liturgy and other sacramental services. The flames symbolize: the light of Christ present in the Eucharist. Often, two candelabra are placed symmetrically—one on each side of the Tabernacle or Gospel Book. The kandila (kandili) is typically made of brass, bronze, or gilded metal and can hold 1, 3, 5 or 7 candles. The 7 light version symbolizes the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit (Isaiah 11:2–3) and is called Επτάφωτη Λυχνία Αγίας Τραπέζης (Seven-Lamp Stand of the Holy Altar)
