Epitaphios
The Greek Orthodox Epitáphios (or Epitafios) is a large wooden icon depicting Christ laid in the tomb and traditionally adorned with flowers and cloths. It is used during Holy Friday (Good Friday) services of Holy Week in the Orthodox Church and carried in solemn procession during the Lamentations service, symbolizing Christ’s burial, sacrifice, and the Church’s mourning before the Resurrection.
