Amalia Traditional - Girl (Size 8, Size 10, Size 12, Size 14, Size 16+)
The Amalia costume is the most traditional of all Greek girl costumes - it is considered the women's national costume of Greece. The costume was designated by the first queen of Greece, Queen Amalia. A long sleeve jacket is worn with the skirt and a hat with a long cord.
This girl's costume consists of
(1) velvet jacket with velcro closing at front and embroidered trimming throughout
(2) velcro fez (hat)
(3) white satin polyester long sleeve shirt with decorative front, detailed extended lace cuffs and a tie closing at back neck.
(4) light blue satin polyester skirt with elastic waist
This outfit is imported from Greece and generally kept in stock ready to ship from our NJ location. This traditional dancing costume is a favorite amongst dancing troupes and churches.
Sizing: The costume runs true to size. We recommend to size to the shirt of the Amalia costume as the shirt is the tightest fit of the whole outfit. If your child is broad shouldered, you can size up. The skirt is full length and has a gentle elastic waist. The elastic waist of the skirt can be rolled up to shorten the length if need be.
- The Amalia Size 16/18 runs quite long / big. Amalia Size 16 skirt length: ~ 44" (3.6 feet)
- Amalia Size 14 skirt length: ~ 41" (3.4 feet).
- Amalia Size 12 skirt length: ~36" (3 feet).
- Amalia Size 10 skirt lenght: ~33" (2.75 feet)
- Amalia Size 8 skirt length: ~30" (2.5 feet)

The Amalia dress is the traditional dress of Greece. It came into creation inspired by Queen Amalia who was the wife of King Otto. Queen Amalia and King Otto (both of German descent) were appointed as the Queen and King of Greece in 1837 and sought to create a national attire to help unify the people of Greece. The Amalia dress is a combination of European inspiration and Greek tradition and the Queen wore it at all official occasions. The costume includes a long dress (or skirt and chamise blouse) . The blouse has elaborate open flared sleeves. A bodice (now velvet vest) was worn on top and embroidered with elaborate gold patterns. The Amalia national costume also has a red fez (hat) adorned with a tassel.
