Crowns

Stephana are wedding crowns that are used in the Orthodox wedding ceremony. Stefana symbolize the glory and honor of being united in matrimony by God.

During the Sacrament of Marriage, the priest places the stéfana on the heads of the Bride and Groom. The sponsor of the wedding couple - koumbaro or koumbara - exchanges the crowns from the bride and groom’s heads and swaps them three times as witness to the sealing of the union.
