You are considered Greek Orthodox when you are both baptized and chrismated into the faith. Being baptized means you are anointed with Holy Oil in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The Church welcomes people into its fold at any age.
If the candidate for Greek Orthodoxy has never been baptized, (s)he will come to his or her Orthodox baptism and have two sacraments conducted - Baptism and Chrismation. The ceremony of the dunking will be adjusted based on the age, weather, priest and logistics of the adult and church. Most times, the adult being baptized will do so at the church altar with the traditional baptismal font. A towel is placed on the church floor between the font and the anointed. The adult leans over the baptismal font and the priest pours the Holy water over the head of the baptized. In certain situations, the baptism is conducted outside if the priest has a preference for this.
Adults being baptized usually will wear a white robe along with an appropriate bathing suit to wear underneath, along with a change of clothes that are white with a white undershirt as well.
