Gold Plated Wedding Cup Goblet with Cross and Metal Lid

The wedding cup is also known as the Common Cup and is a wine goblet used during the Greek Orthodox Wedding ceremony.   The cup is brought to the church for the Orthodox wedding ceremony.   It is placed on the wedding tray alongside the Stefana and koufeta.  During the ceremony there is a ready of the Holy Gospel of the Marriage of Cana at Gailee.  This story tells of how Jesus turned water into wine and given to the bride and groom.  After the reading of this passage, the bride and groom sip three times from the common cup three times in remembrance of this miracle and for a successful union.
